Personal History: Born with a prophecy hanging over his head, Harry Potter has quite an unusual history. While he was barely over a year old, Harry managed to survive Voldemort’s Killing Curse with the only visual result the lightening bolt scar on his forehead after it had murdered both of his parents. He was taken to his aunt and uncle’s house in Little Winging, left on the doorstep with a letter explaining the situation. Harry didn’t have what you could call a happy childhood. The first ten years of his life, he was being ignored and hidden in a cupboard under the stairs, not knowing the truth about the death of his parents, the scar on his forehead or the fact that he was a wizard.

The biggest revelation came at his eleventh birthday when his aunt’s house was being flooded with letters from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. To escape the constant stream of letters coming in, his aunt, uncle and nephew took him on a brief vacation, but even there, they were not safe at all. Hagrid found them anyway and managed to give Harry the first envelope that he got to open.

Harry’s years at Hogwarts were not always easy. Together with his fame of being the Boy-Who-Lived came a great responsibility. Needless to say, Harry didn’t always enjoy being popular and famous. And then there were trouble... Harry Potter never went looking for it, but it usually just found him instead; whether it was following a stuttering Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor with a turban in order to retrieve the Philosopher’s Stone, ride a Hippogiff, or sticking your nose into memories that do not belong to you while your Professor has left the room for a little while.

But no matter what he was up against, his best friends Ron and Hermione were always by his side. They also made the decision of not returning to Hogwarts to help Harry find Voldemort’s Horcruxes and Harry would admit to anyone any day that he would never have been able to defeat Voldemort if it hadn’t been for their constant help and support.

In the aftermath of the war, Harry was trained to become an Auror and he helped “clean up” the remaining Death Eaters. While trials were held, his time was usually occupied either giving testimonials or trying to outrun Daily Prophet journalists and photographers. When things finally started to die down a little, life and work became a daily, rather boring routine to him. For some reason, he couldn’t quite decide whether he liked this life better than the hectic one he had been living the previous years.

His relationship with Ginny has also known its ups and downs after the war, Harry often not knowing whether to pour his heart out to her when something was bothering him or to run off to deal with his problems on his own. Harry has been known to chose the latter option and thus disappear once in a while, whether it be for a little over a few hours or even a day or two. But in the mean time, Harry and Ginny have been dating off and on.

While he thought he had finally gotten his life on track, the recent events of new riots and battles between groups brought his inner turmoil back to the surface. Right after the assassination of the Minister of Magic in April 2002, Harry took time off for an undetermined period of time, based on “personal reasons”.
